I just came back from WI. The drive out there had it’s up and downs, when I got around Cedar Rapids Iowa, the snow had just fallen, around 4″, by the time I got to the WI border, the snow plows where just getting out, it took me another 3 hours to get to Fond du Lac. 2009_0112newpics0053-1024.jpg

This was my first snow storm in many years and was 1 of 4 before I got back to Kansas. After Ruebens Funeral, we headed back to Fond du Lac, where they just got another 3″, the roads were basically snow/ice covered.2009_0112newpics0065-1024.jpg

My trip back was a nightmare. Leaving Milwaukee around 6 am, the roads were clear but there was alot of Fog, for at least 70 miles. Once I got to Iowa City I saw the darkness ahead. A BLIZZARD.
I slowed down to around 45 and the plows had not come through hwy 80 yet, after going about 30 miles, the roads became BLACK ICE.
I fishtailed in the middle of the road a few times. That was enough for me!

I pulled off at the next exit and waited for the plows to come and salt the roads. After 30 minutes or so, I ventured back on the HWY, the cars that passed my were all over the road, in the ditches, median and even over turned.

Even though it has been many years since I drove in the snow, I made it through. Then I hit another storm in Des Moines, after leaving Des Moines the Sun came out for maybe 15 minutes.
Then another Blizzard and from Des Moines to Omaha.

Once the snow finally stopped accumulating, I could get back up to 65, But the North winds were Howling and gusting to over 60 MPH for the next 200 miles.

WOW I am glad to be back in Kansas.

It is Cold at the Ranch today but should get above freezing in the next couple of days and maybe 50 by next week. Not so much for My friends and Family back in WI (-15 today with wind chills of -33). I’m shivering thinking about it. Stay warm everyone.
